เครื่องสำรองไฟสำหรับ Server

เครื่องสำรองไฟสำหรับ Server บางบริษัทมีความจำเป็นจะต้องมี server เพื่อทำหน้าที่เป็นเหมือนผู้ให้บริการต่าง ๆ ในโครงข่ายอินเตอร์เน็ต หรือโครงข่ายที่มีลูกข่าย เมื่อมีผู้ใช้งานมาขอใช้บริการ Server เครื่อง Server จะจัดสรรทรัพยากรที่มีอยู่ในเครื่องเพื่อให้บริการในทันที โดยการทำงานของ Server จะทำงานพร้อมกันหลาย ๆอย่างได้ในเวลาเดียวกัน เนื่องจากความสามารถของเครื่อง Server ส่วนใหญ่จะมีความสามารถที่สูง โดยการทำงานแต่ละอย่างของ Server จะทำงานใน Port ที่ต่างกันไปซึ่งบริการของ Server นั้นมีหลากหลายอย่างด้วยกัน โดยสามารถแบ่งได้เป็น 4 หน้าที่หลักๆ

Web server คือโปรแกรมที่มีหน้าที่ให้บริการด้านการจัดการเว็บไซต์ โดยส่วนมากโปรแกรมที่นิยมใช้เป็น Web server จะเป็น Apache web server
Mail server คือโปรแกรมที่มีหน้าที่ให้บริการด้าน E-mail โปรแกรมที่ใช้ในด้าน Mail server มีอยู่หลายโปรแกรมด้วยกันแต่ที่นิยมกันจะมีอยู่ 3 โปรแกรมคือPostfix, qmail, courier
DNS server คือโปรแกรมที่มีหน้าที่ให้บริการด้านโดเมนเนมที่จะค่อยเปลี่ยนชื่อเว็บไซต์ที่เราต้องการให้เป็น IP Address โปรแกรมที่นิยมใช้คือ bind9
Database server คือโปรแกรมที่ทำหน้าที่ให้บริการด้านการจัดการดูแลข้อมูลต่างๆภายในเว็บไซต์ โปรแกรมที่มีการใช้งานส่วนใหญ่จะเป็น mysql, postgresql, DB2

เครื่องสำรองไฟ จึงมีความสำคัญอย่างมาก สามารถช่วยป้องกันอันตรายที่อาจจะเกิดขึ้นกับเครื่อง Server ที่เกิดจากระบบไฟฟ้าที่ไม่เสถียร เช่น ไฟตก ไฟดับ หรือระบบไฟฟ้าขัดข้อง ทำให้จ่ายๆไฟได้ไม่เต็มกระแส โดย UPS ก็จะปรับกระแสไฟฟ้าให้อยู่ในระดับที่ดีเพื่อให้อุปกรณ์ไฟฟ้าสามารถทำงานได้อย่างต่อเนื่อง ช่วยยืดอายุการใช้งานอุปกรณ์เครือข่าย ที่อยู่ในพื้นที่ไฟฟ้าไม่คงที่ มีไฟตกหรือไฟดับบ่อย

เครื่องสำรองไฟที่เหมาะสมสำหรับ Server คือ On Line Protection UPS เครื่องสำรองไฟฟ้าที่มีระบบการป้องกันแรงดันไฟฟ้าสูงหรือต่ำ (Stabilizer) เครื่องUPSชนิดนี้ จะไม่ได้ดึงไฟฟ้าจากแบตเตอรี่เพียงอย่างเดียว และจะพลังงานจะแบตเตอรี่ไว้ใช้ยามจำเป็นเท่านั้น เป็นชนิดที่ได้รับความนิยมมากที่สุด สามารถป้องกันปัญหาทางไฟฟ้าได้ทุกกรณี ไม่ว่าจะเป็นไฟดับ ไฟตก ไฟเกิน หรือสัญญาณรบกวนใดๆ คุณสมบัติที่สำคัญของเครื่องสำรองไฟสำหรับ Server มีดังนี้

กำลังไฟฟ้า ควรเลือกกำลังไฟฟ้าของเครื่องสำรองไฟให้เหมาะสมกับกำลังไฟฟ้าของ Server และอุปกรณ์อื่นๆ ที่เชื่อมต่ออยู่ โดยควรเผื่อกำลังไฟฟ้าเพิ่มขึ้นอีก 20-30% เพื่อรองรับการใช้งานในอนาคต
เวลาสำรองไฟ ควรเลือกเวลาสำรองไฟของเครื่องสำรองไฟให้เพียงพอต่อการใช้งานของ Server และอุปกรณ์อื่นๆ โดยปกติแล้ว Server จะใช้พลังงานไฟฟ้าค่อนข้างมาก ดังนั้นเวลาสำรองไฟจึงควรอย่างน้อย 30 นาที เพื่อให้สามารถปิดเครื่อง Server อย่างปลอดภัยได้
คุณสมบัติอื่นๆ ควรเลือกเครื่องสำรองไฟที่มีคุณสมบัติอื่นๆ ที่จำเป็น เช่น ระบบป้องกันไฟกระชาก ระบบแจ้งเตือนแบตเตอรี่หมด เป็นต้น

สาเหตุที่เครื่องสำรองไฟสำหรับ Server ควรเป็นประเภท True Online UPS เนื่องจาก Server มีความไวต่อคุณภาพของกระแสไฟฟ้าเป็นอย่างมาก หากเกิดไฟดับหรือไฟตก Server อาจทำงานผิดพลาดหรือเสียหายได้ เครื่องสำรองไฟแบบ True Online UPS จะช่วยป้องกันปัญหาเหล่านี้ได้
